Killarnée Targa South West: A great success

Crews got their first experience of the tarmac roads in the South West Region of Western Australian with Killarnée Targa South West last weekend.

For many of these crews it was the opportunity to live a dream and experience tarmac rallying for the first time.

“We wanted to make sure that interested crews whose vehicles might not quite meet all of the CAMS regulations had the opportunity to experience the thrill of tarmac rallying,” Killarnée Targa South West Event Director Bob Schrader said.

“All the vehicles were approved by CAMS and the goal is that these competitors will consider modifying their cars to comply with the regulations and then participate in events such as Quit Targa West and other CAMS tarmac rallies,” Schrader continued.

Being run for the first time in 2010, Killarnée Targa South West was a non-competitive, timed event which also provided existing crews with the opportunity to shakedown vehicles and get more time in the car to test various options.

“Our goal was to provide a highly enjoyable event for Classic and Modern vehicles where the whole ‘spirit of the event is centered on taking part and the enjoyment of the thrill of the open road in a controlled environment and I believe we achieved what we set out to do judging by the very positive feedback coming in from the competitors.” Schrader added.

Based in Pemberton and the Shire of Manjimup Killarnée Targa South West also brought the thrill of tarmac rallying to new fan base. The LF Performance Pemberton Town Stage which ran on Sunday was packed with spectators and residents, all enjoying the colourful experience.

“We received fantastic support from the local community and the Shire of Manjimup and expect this event to grow from strength to strength over the next few years,” Schrader said.
